George Sax Judges Regional Championship Round of ABA Law Student Division Appellate Advocacy Regional Finals at the U.S. District Court

George D. Sax judged one of the five regional championship rounds of the American Bar Association's National Appellate Advocacy Competition for law students on February 18, 2018.   Two-person teams of top law students from across the country engaged in a simulated United States Supreme Court oral argument at the Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse in Chicago.  The case dealt with alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act by police officers. Earlier in the month Mr. Sax served as a Judge for the National Semifinal Round of the National Negotiation Competition.

The Courthouse is the home to the U.S. District and Bankruptcy courts, Court of Appeals, and other court-related tenants.  From the bench Mr. Sax and a panel of three other experienced appellate practitioners judged the exercise, provided feedback and practice tips before deciding which teams would advance to the national championship rounds.  Teams from the University of Alabama, Capital University Law School, Northwestern University, and Washington University advanced to the national championship round, which will take place in Washington, D.C. in April 2018.
