Marilyn Chimes Speaks on “Beyond the Animal Welfare Act” at the New Mexico State Bar Association

Ms. Chimes will dissect the complex web of laws, policies, and accreditation that help protect animals maintained or used in research activities.  She will examine the loopholes of the Animal Welfare Act and its regulations and then explain how many of these gaps are filled by the policies of the Public Health Service, federal agencies, state laws, and the voluntary accrediting of research animal facilities by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
