Partner Sarah Marmor was among those featured In an article published in the December 7, 2023, edition of The Chicago Reader entitled The Late Great Joe Cassidy Links Music Scenes Across The Atlantic in The Secret History Of Chicago Music column by musician, writer, and music historian Steve Krakow.

The article highlights the efforts of a group of Chicagoans and other friends to carry on the legacy of Chicago-based Northern Ireland transplant Joe Cassidy, founder and singer in notably bands Butterfly Child, Assassins, and Noise (a collaboration with artist Shepard Fairey).  In August 2021, Sarah Marmor and Joe Shanahan, owner of storied live music venue Metro, produced a tribute concert for Cassidy called “Hear in Heaven.”  Scores of musicians who Joe worked with and supported performed.  Funds generated by “Hear in Heaven” were used to create the “Joe Cassidy Chrysalis Award,” which was presented to the Belfast-based band, Chalk, by Marmor and Cassidy’s bandmate, Aaron Miller at the Northern Irish Music Prize on November 15, 2024.

Joe Cassidy was a beloved and respected member of Chicago’s dynamic and influential music scene as an artist, producer, and all around lovely fella.  As the article notes, Marmor and Cassidy were close friends for many years until his death.
