Stephanie Scharf Co-Chairs the ABA’s First-Ever World Forum for Women in the Law

Partner Stephanie Scharf is co-chairing the American Bar Association’s first-ever World Forum for Women in the Law on January 27-29, 2021. This cutting- edge conference will be conducted virtually and will focus on Women, Power and Disrupting the Status Quo.  The Forum will bring together women leaders in the legal profession, representing a global array of international firms, corporations, NGOs and public officials committed to advancing women into leadership roles. The event will be highly interactive, with opportunities to learn about strategies and initiatives that have been successful across firms and organizations from around the globe and to engage in dialogue with leaders in the field.

Scharf was 2017-2020 Chair of the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession and under her leadership, planning for this exciting  and innovative global event began over a year and a half ago. “The ABA Commission on Women in the Profession has a long history of creating and sponsoring  projects  and programs to learn about a problem and frame data-based solutions,” stated Ms. Scharf.  “The World Forum on Women in the Law will be another first and one that will have a significant impact on advancing women in the law.”

Ms. Scharf is one of the nation’s leading lawyers for advancing women in the law and has designed and conducted a broad range of empirical studies about women in the law. She founded and conducted the NAWL Annual Survey of Women in the Law from 2006-2014;   conducted and co-authored the first-ever empirical study of women at trial,  First Chairs at Trial: More Women Need Seats at the Table; and most recently co-authored Walking Out the Door: The Facts, Figures and Future of Experienced Women Lawyers in Private Practice, a national survey about everyday experiences in law, with a data-based set of best practices for firms to use to strengthen their Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs.
