Stephanie Scharf Interviews Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth at the ABA’s World Forum for Women in the Law

Partner Stephanie Scharf served as Co-Chair of the ABA’s World Forum for Women in the Law where she interviewed Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth. Over 700 women from around the globe gathered virtually for this inaugural three-day conference focused on women, power and disrupting the status quo.

In this upfront and personal interview Senator Duckworth shared her personal experiences as a military and political leader along with insights and anecdotes that inform, challenge and inspire.  She discussed lessons from the pandemic, the importance of role models and disrupting the status quo, tackling systematic racism, and how women can lead and be positive change agents in the political, economic and social systems of our nation.

An Iraq War Veteran, Senator Duckworth is a Purple Heart recipient and former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.  She was among the first handful of Army women to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Senator Duckworth served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 after representing Illinois’s Eighth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms.
