Chaired by Partner Sarah Marmor, the Court Theatre’s 2018 Gala, “Tonight, Tonight,” was a smashing success. Over 300 people attended the black-tie event on April 7, 2018 at the Ritz Carlton Chicago. Proceeds from the event supported Court Theatre’s artistic initiatives and community programs. Highlights of the evening included performances from the classical musical West Side Story, honoring Allstate Insurance Corporation for its eight-year partnership and support of Court’s Education Initiative and a tribute to the late Executive Director, Stephen J. Albert.
Since 2011 Allstate has supported diversity on Court Theatre’s stage by sponsoring productions from the African American canon. Through its support of Court’s Student Matinee program over 4,000 students from Chicago and the surrounding region attend weekday morning performances at the Theatre.
The late Stephen J. Albert served as Executive Director of Court Theatre from 2010-2017. At the Gala Mr. Albert’s significant contributions, leadership in establishing the Center for Classic Theatre and strengthening Court’s ties to the community were honored and celebrated.
Guests enjoyed special performances from West Side Story providing them with a unique and first-time experience with Leonard Bernstein’s famous score and Stephen Sondheim’s memorable lyrics.
A passionate advocate for the arts, Ms. Marmor also serves on the Theatre’s Board of Directors. As a Founding Partner of Scharf Banks Marmor LLC, Ms. Marmor’s commitment to diversity and inclusion extends to her support of the arts. Court reaches 35,000 patrons annually: 65% visit from the greater Chicago region. Of that group, 34% comes from the surrounding neighborhoods of Hyde Park and Kenwood. Approximately 600 South Side high school students participate in Court Theatre’s in-school programs and 3,500 Chicago-area teens attend discounted Student Matinees annually.
